Fourteen comedians and about 120 fans raised more than $2,100 on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Old Stove Brewing Co. - Gardens in Ballard.

Thanks to one of our comedians, Justine Ventura, that money will be doubled, meaning more than $4,200 will go to the Weekend Food for Kids program at one of the highest points of food insecurity in the U.S. in recent memory. Amazing!

The show will feature headliner Andrew Frank and a lineup of rising Seattle comedians, many of whom live within a few miles of the Food Bank.
Lines have been getting longer at the Food Bank for a while now and they expect need to increase by 30% to 40% as SNAP benefits are withheld. The Food Bank will have representatives on hand to answer questions, take donations and sell raffle tickets. And we’ll be accepting nonperishable food donations - especially individual servings of mac & cheese, a staple in Weekend Food for Kids program meals.
Doors open at 5 p.m. There is a full bar and restaurant menu. The show is 13+. Parking is free.

Ballard Food Bank officials tell us here at Mockingbird Comedy that they expect a 30% to 40% increase in use of services this week. For perspective, Ballard and Seattle are among the most affluent places in America. And even here, the need grows every day as politicians play chicken with real human lives.
We’ve decided to do something about it. We’ve created Belly Laughs: A Comedy Benefit for the Ballard Food Bank at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Old Stove Brewing Co. - Gardens in Ballard.
How about you? Want to take action? You don’t have to create a whole comedy show. Seems kinda hard, right? Here are three easy things you -can- do to help:
1. Donate: Give as much as you can. It has been decades since we’ve had this much need in our country, and if you won’t help, who will?
2. Volunteer: The Ballard Food Bank relies on volunteers to provide many services to the community. If you don’t live in Ballard, find your food bank and go volunteer there. Or join organizations that register voters. Often, your time is as valuable as your money.
3. Laugh: We’re going to use laughter as a weapon and fight back against the notion that those in need are the problem. Please join us for Belly Laughs. Tickets are $20 with a portion of every sale going to the Food Bank’s Weekend Food for Kids program. And Old Stove will donate a dollar for every beer purchased during the show, too.
There will be Food Bank representatives on hand to answer questions, take donations and sign up volunteers. And we’ll be accepting donations of nonperishables ahead of the holidays.

Welp! Way back when in late September when we agreed to hold the Battle of the Ages Comedy Show at Laughs Comedy Club on a quiet Sunday in late mid-October, we thought we’d have the day mostly to ourselves. Alas, the Seattle Mariners will be playing for history when they face the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series AT THE EXACT SAME TIME! Yes, that’s right. The fickle finger of fate has gotten us pretty darn good. We say GO MARINERS! But we here at Mockingbird Comedy know something: Not everyone likes baseball! It’s true! You might be keeping it hidden like a dirty little secret, but it’s gonna be all right. We have a solution: Ignore the game altogether. We all know even if the Mariners are going to make it to the Series, they’re going to have to run their fans over the rails one last time by losing Game 6. Welp! Way back when in late September when we agreed to hold the Battle of the Ages Comedy Show at Laughs Comedy Club on a quiet Sunday in late mid-October, we thought we’d have the day mostly to ourselves. Alas, the Seattle Mariners will be playing for history when they face the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series AT THE EXACT SAME TIME! Yes, that’s right. The fickle finger of fate has gotten us pretty darn good. We say GO MARINERS! But we here at Mockingbird Comedy know something: Not everyone likes baseball! It’s true! You might be keeping it hidden like a dirty little secret, but it’s gonna be all right. We have a solution: Ignore the game altogether. We all know even if the Mariners are going to make it to the Series, they’re going to have to run their fans over the rails one last time by losing Game 6. So skip it, wait for Game 7 and help support local comedy and comedians! We’ve got 16 comics lined up in generational teams of Boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Gen Z ready to do mortal combat under the direction of host Rich Snyder.
